Dawn Aston

“Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!”
― Goethe

Dawn Aston is an experienced artist who graduated from Belfast College of Art with a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art/Painting.

Dawn is also an experienced community artist, who for the past 12 years has  facilitated numerous and diverse community art projects working with people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds,  many projects have been cross community projects as part of the continuing peace process in N. Ireland.

Dawn is an ambassador and a Creative Pathways artist for Play Resource, Belfast.

While Dawn has worked across various mediums including garden design, mosaics are her primary focus.  She has been creating mosaics for 20 years and studied mosaic making with a master mosaicist in Italy.

"I love the process of mosaic making, along with the richness and diversity of materials, that enables an exploitation of light and creation of vibrant images. Whilst mosaics are beautiful additions to interior spaces, they are also perfect partners with designed landscapes and natural settings.”

Previous work and Experience:

BA Hons Fine Art Belfast College of Art & Design

Plant Consultant with SunnyBank Garden centre for 6 years

Studied Horticulture and Garden design at Greenmount College, Antrim.

Having worked with Diarmuid Gavin and Elma Fenton on their large show gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show, London in 2004 and 2005, Dawn has since designed and produced five award winning show gardens at Bloom, Phoenix park, Dublin.

Dawn’s mosaics are featured in all her show gardens, creating visual impact, focal points, functional path surfaces and backdrops.  Mosaics, although one of the oldest art forms, are currently enjoying a worldwide Renaissance with modern materials, techniques and approaches.  The lines between mosaic as a craft and as a fine art are rapidly disappearing with innovative mosaic making.
